Summary:
Science Fiction. A rebellious and restless teenage runaway – literally restless as she has no bed or bedroom – joins an unusual sleep study focusing on dreams. Soon thereafter, her mysterious nightmares take on a threatening meaning and she finds herself in a whirlwind of emotion and unexpected dangers – as the terrible presence of her distorted dreams seeps into her waking moments, undermining any sense of reality.
Canadian indie director Anthony Scott Burns’ second feature film is an impressive purposeful display of expertise and a fountain of creativity, Scott Burns being also the writer, composer, cinematographer and editor of the film, not letting the meek budget stop him in any way. At times the film corresponds with Cronenberg’s early work, at others it feels like a love letter to the horror and fantasy films of the Eighties, soaked in a mesmerizing synth-wave atmosphere and brought to the finish line by some fantastic acting in the lead role of Sarah, by Julia Sarah Stone.
