Summary:

In a parallel present, delivery man Ray Tincelli is struggling to support himself and his ailing younger brother. After a series of two-bit hustles and unsuccessful swindles, Ray takes a job in a strange new realm of the gig economy: trekking deep into the forest, pulling cable over miles of terrain to connect large, metal cubes that link together the new quantum trading market. As he gets deeper into the wilderness and learns his new, physically-demanding and weird gig/job, he encounters growing hostility from other hiker-cablers and the threat of company-owned robot-cablers taking his well-earned miles from him if he doesn’t keep up.

An excellent, accurate and super relevant scifi parable, well conveys the anxieties, hardships and absurdity of the gig economy and the constant confrontation that gig conglomerates force on their employees (“associates”, “partners”) – efficiency of the human worker vs the robot, the human thought vs the algorithm. The film is presented alongside the Jerusalem IFF and following selection at SXSW 2020 had presented at BIFAN Korea, Italy’s Trieste Sciece+Fiction and many other festivals.
