Born 1978 in Ankara’da, his first short films were shot on sure 8 (Proxemique and La Rupture) and were selected to many festivals.
In 2004 Akay co-wrote, co-produced and co-directed “A Flim By Tuğra Kaftancıoğlu”, which in 2013 was voted 2nd favourite at the Istanbul IFF and was selected for the 100th year of Turkish Cinema Retrospective.
Akay directs commercials and music videos, in 2005 he co-directed a documentary about a musician’s struggle to perform in concerts (Forever Onward) and in 2010 co-produced (with Arte France) “A Knot in My Bosporus”.
Akay made the award winning shorts “A Simple Truth”, “Red Alert” and “Byzantine Game”. “A Simple Truth” was listed amongst 10 best shorts of the past 10 years by Ankara Cinema Association.
Akay’s shorts have been screened in more than 40 festivals around the world including Sarajevo, Rotterdam, Beirut, Vienna, Vancouver, Valencia and Transylvania.
