Utopia International Jury 2021-22 & Film Director, My Heart Can't Beat Unless You Tell It To (Utopia 2020-2021)
Jonathan Cuartas is a Colombian-American writer/director from Miami, USA. His debut feature, My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2020, where it received a Special Jury Mention. Cuartas won the Citizen Kane Award for Best Directorial Revelation at Sitges and the New Direction Competition at Cleveland International Film Festival for his work on the film (presented at Utopia 2020/2021). Jonathan is a proud Miami Dade College graduate and Sundance Knight Fellow. He’s best friends with his older brother Michael, who just so happens to be a cinematographer.
