Joseph, and work by authors-artists Ana Mendieta, Bhanu Kapil, and Johanna Hedva.
Stern reflects on aging, a fading of beauty and body and female self-erasure, proposing
that lying down, going underground, or inhabiting dissociative spaces, “holes in the
wall”, can be acts of resistance and a chance to reclaim agency.
